About us

MCR is aired every Ramadan from its studio at the LMC. It offers a mix of programmes aimed at the whole family through news, views, discussions, children‘s programmes, and women‘s programmes.

In 1998 and 1999 MCR broadcasted using a Restricted Service Licence (RSL). Building on the success of those years MCR set out to establish a Radio station for Muslims covering London and its surroundings. In 2000 MCR ran a pilot programme for three months on Spectrum Radio 558am. This was very successful – however due, to contractual issues with Spectrum we could not continue this any longer.

Since then, in 2001 and 2002, Muslim Community Radio (MCR) with the call sign “Ramadan Special” has secured licenses to broadcast 24 hours across East London throughout the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
MCR is run by local volunteers, and is an exciting environment for budding professionals in the broadcasting area. A sample range of its broadcasting will include, shows for women, run by women – children’s show, Fiqh sessions, quizzes, Bangla programmes, Somali programmes, Arabic programmes, youth programmes and of course light entertainment programmes!

We are very keen to establish a full time Muslim radio and welcome any advice or comments that you may have.

MCR is back for its 13th year running, broadcasting on 1134AM to East London, one of the largest Muslim communities in the UK, and online to the world. MCR promises to bring the most dynamic, informative and entertaining mix of programmes this Ramadan.
